Most of us have heard the proverbial "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your gonna get", from the movie Forrest Gump. It's true, we don't know what life may bring us. Recently while prepping the Tin Roof kitchen for some soup I had a "soup-ology" epihany. While peeling potatoes for one of our new soups I thought hmm...life is similar to a bowl of homemade soup.
With the ingredients in hand and the tools in front of me to complete the task, I read the recipe and began my courageous journey. Each ingredient needed for the soup of the day reminded me of bits and pieces of life that work together to create our "life-soup". Our lives are a result of our past, present and dreams for the future. Just like the perfect bowl of soup, these ingredients work together to produce what is hopefully one day a long, fulfilled and shared life.
Cooking is a new experience for me but I'm growing fonder of it everyday. Just like life, it is bringing new and challenging opportunities. As we journey on toward our ultimate goals I'd like to close with this thought. Some ingredients are written on our recipe cards and we know just what's needed. While others are added a pinch at a time for a little of this and a little of that. The most important ingredient however is waiting for the perfect time. If we pull the soup off the heat too soon it's not going to be ready or edible. We have to wait just for the right moment. Then when it seems that we've "cooked" as long as we can, the fire is put out and our lives are stirred to the point of overflowing into the lives around us.
At the cafe we have some ingredients we'd like to share with you. We have teas, coffes, specialty sandwiches and Racheals new lemon-iced sugar cookies, but we would also like to offer you a place to experience new recipes of life. It may be winter in our Smoky Mountain season, but it's warm and comforting everyday at the farmhouse under the Tin Roof.
Hoping to see you soon!
M.J. Olson
